The first seeds of today’s Goulburn are planted, with the first land grants and purchases. The township was

surveyed in 1828 with further planning by NSW Government surveyor Robert Hoddle in 1833.

A temporary timber “convict” hospital was constructed on the corner of Sloane and Clifford Streets. A new

hospital was built on the site in 1848.
